By Pastor Glem Melo
Since day 1 of the Haiyan/Yolanda devastation, the Open Eyes Mission team and partners have visited, ministered to and provided much-needed relief and assistance to pastors and members of 5 churches in 5 severely affected towns in 3 provinces. We visit them regularly and listen to their struggles. We talk about their most pressing needs and the hindrances to their progress towards rehabilitation. In every visit, we minister to them and counsel them with God’s word, knowing that the crux of everything is our faith and walk with Christ. His word is clear:
“Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.” (John 15:4-5)
Resting in Christ and His word, we then work together towards the development of a plan of action to address their situation and to overcome obstacles. We pray as brothers and sisters in Christ, and begin implementing our agreed plan as a team.
One of those churches is Christ Baptist Church in La Paz, Leyte.
Please pray that God’s word would continue to take root in the hearts of our brothers and sisters in La Paz. That they would cling to it as their food and life. That upon its solid foundation, they will find grounding and strength as they continue to suffer and struggle in the aftermath of the supertyphoon.
